Revealed: London’s Supercar Hotspots
Supercar spotting has become such a big part of the London scene these days that there are many dedicated YouTube and social media accounts associated with specifically that subject. Clips of exotic cars driving through the streets of London or parked up on the side of the road are commonplace to Instagram posts, TikToks or YouTube point of view spotting videos.
Many YouTubers and automotive influencers such as Paul Wallace (Supercars Of London) and Tim Burton (Shmee 150) started their channels spotting supercars in and around the capital and their popularity has led them to the millions of followers and subscribers that they have today.
But which London Borough is actually most likely to finance a supercar? Whilst many people would think that Knightsbridge, Mayfair or Belgravia would be where to hang out with your camera for the most likely place to snap away at the most supercars, it isn’t where the most owners are actually funding them.
At Oracle Car Finance, more than half of our customers live in London and surrounding regions. In fact, that proportion is even greater when it comes to those purchasing supercars and hypercars. So after looking at heatmaps of our customers who are actually buying supercars in the London area, just where are the majority of them located?
London’s Supercar Boroughs
With almost 400 in total funded in the past 5 years alone, a supercar is funded by one of our customers in the London area on average every 5 days. But just where are the most common areas for supercar purchases in the capital, it may be not quite where you were expecting. It is actually the most northerly borough of Enfield that are the most frequent supercar buyers amongst our customers, with just under 11% of the share. This is closely followed by Kingston Upon Thames with 9.6% of the share and probably the least surprising area in third is Kensington & Chelsea with almost 7.5% of the share.
Oracle Car Finance Managing Director Peter Brook said: “We do a lot of business with customers living in the capital, but even I was surprised at the areas where our clients who buy supercars live. We specialise in finance for luxury and performance cars and a large proportion of our business is done with Londoners who love to drive around in the latest cars. Historically as a brand, Land Rover, and in particular, Range Rover, is the most popular with our customers in the capital, surprisingly with Ferrari and Porsche a close second and third.”
Where Are The Top 10 Boroughs?
The Top 10 London Boroughs with the highest number of supercars funded are as follows:
Enfield 10.7%
Kingston Upon Thames 9.6%
Kensington & Chelsea 7.5%
Barnet 6.1%
Croydon 5.6%
Hillingdon 5.3%
Richmond 5.12%
Westminster 4.8%
Hounslow 4%
Bromley 3.5%
More than 60% of the supercars our customers have bought over the past 5 years in the capital were from the top 10 boroughs. That’s more than 230 supercars funded in less than a third of the 32 boroughs of London and more than 100 of those housed, or rather garaged, in Enfield, Kingston Upon Thames and Kensington & Chelsea.
Is It The Same For Luxury SUV’s?
Expanding the data to premium SUV’s such as the Lamborghini Urus, the Rolls Royce Cullinan, the most expensive variants of Range Rover and the Mercedes Benz G63 AMG, tells a slightly different story. For SUV’s costing more than £100,000 it is actually Kensington & Chelsea that comes out on top, with over 10% of premium SUV’s funded in the London area by our customers coming from the affluent London borough. This is closely followed by the London boroughs of Westminster, Havering and Redbridge, all with the same amount of 8.6%.
In fact if you combine the number of supercars with the number of prestige SUV’s funded across the London boroughs over the past 5 years, there’s very little to split the top 3 of Enfield, Kingston Upon Thames and Kensington & Chelsea, with just 3 cars difference between them all.
How Has This Changed?
10 years ago we featured in an article for Wired Magazine about the different areas of London most likely to fund a supercar, and it was a different story in 2014 than it is today. Back then just over 19% of all supercars funded over the previous 5 years were from the affluent borough of Richmond in West London, in fact almost as many as the next 2 most popular areas of Enfield and Kingston upon Thames combined. Enfield, the most northerly of the 32 London Boroughs, is where the second highest number of supercars were funded with 10% of the total, with Kingston upon Thames narrowly behind with just 0.2% less.
